Originally by: Jex Jast I'd like to get a feel for the different ransoming philosophies of our pirates around here. When you ransom someone, how long does that last? Or does that vary?
Personally, if I'm hunting about in other systems, and I ransom someone, I basically tell them "I'll leave you alone until I get back to this system, then I'll come get you again." If it's at the end of my route I just give them 10 minutes or so of free time. Might as well let the other pirates come in if they please.
If, however, I'm hunting in my home system or one of the immediate connected systems, I will often ransom them and tell them that they've paid for the right to leave, and if they come back they will again be fair game. It's a more territorial thing, too much prey means too many other pirates, and it's fun to assert authority and tell people to go away.
If I were camping a gate (which I don't as I haven't the patience nor a good gank ship) the ransom would be for them to pass through, either way they wished. A toll, really.
How do you ransom, what's your policy? If you ransom somebody and tell him to leave system, and he doesn't, do you go and pop him?
Or do you just gank and say "**** ransom" for whateer reason (i.e. more fun to pop them, ransoms are rarely paid, want smack, too lazy)?
What would be good was if the game had a feature whereby you could give a potential target a "Temporary Pass/Flag" good for the period of the pirates choosing, and negotiated either in advance or when you have the target at your mercy.
And if a member of your corp subsequently shot at the person while the flag was still in effect, your corp would receive immediate notification of the violation (unless of course, the target shot first).
Would have to work out the mechanics of the flag, but it's worthless to discuss time periods unless the game mechanics show you who paid a ransom/protection fee and who did not. "Don't be afraid to take advantage of your enemy's weaknesses. Becasuse winning is everything after all." |
